Pupil Leadership
The voice of our Abbeyhillians is very important to us. We listen carefully to what our Abbeyhillians tell us and we have used their feedback and input to help shape our school.
From Years 1-6, each class elects a class MP. Our Year 6 class elects 2 pupils, one to be Prime Minister and one to be Deputy.
School Parliament meet several times each term. They are involved in monitoring, feedback and are given projects to collate pupil voice. They also contribute to the Transform Pupil Parliament.
Listening to Pupil Voice
As a result of pupil voice, we have enacted a number of things over the last few academic years including:
- Staff having school lanyards so they, like the pupils, wear the school logo with pride.
- Introducing sheds for craft, construction and cosy-up-with-a-book at playtime and lunchtime.
- Helping to design the school environment.
- Guiding staff and pupils to reflect on environmental issues.
- Deciding what our core offer for trips should be with a particular focus on diversity of faith.
- Reflecting on strengths in our curriculum including the Book Publication project with our Patron of Reading, Gareth Baker.
- Changes to our relational approach to behaviour.
- The songs we sing in singing assembly!
- The clubs offered after school.
